1. (a)What are decomposers? What will be the consequence of their absence in an ecosystem?
(b)What are the advantages of cloth bags over plastic bags?
Dear Student,
Decomposers or saprotrophs are those organisms that break down dead and decaying organic matter into simpler substances.
If decomposers are removed from an, ecosystem then
- There will be no recycling of nutrients such Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Sulphur, etc. as decomposers are responsible for most of the recycling which returns dead material to the soil in a form in which it can be reused.
- All the biodegradable waste will accumulate and this will cause environmental pollution.
