The principle named "Scalar chain" suggests to have a hierarchy in the organisations. Fayol is of the view that an organisation should have a line of management with top officials and subordinates where managers release orders and subordinates obey.
Another principle suggest "Equity" which tells to have fair representation for everyone in the firm.This would keep up the harmony in the firm.
The two principles seem to be contradicting each other but doesn't actually. Scalar Chain is required to maintain "Unity of order" and to lead an organisation whereas equal representation would prevent discouragement among subordinates and provide a democratic atmosphere.
