1. Explain various effects on substances caused by change in heat.

Heating a solid at or above its melting point converts it into its liquid form. A liquid at or above its boiling point is converted into vapour form.
A gas changes phase into a liquid on removing heat from the system and this process is condensation.  At or below its freezing point, a liquid is converted to a solid.
For example, when heat is supplied to ice, it melts at or above 0°C and boils at 100°C.
