1. what is the terminology for the concept of group immortality?

2.life span of a may fly is one day whilw that of banyan tree can be 200 years.what message do you get from this data concerning BMR?

The term used for group immortality is reproduction as it is through reproduction that organisms are able to carry on their race.

If life span of a may fly is one day and that of a banyan tree is 200 years then it implies that a may fly has very high BMR and a banyan tree has very low BMR.

 2. WE GET THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE:

LIFE SPANS OF ORGANISMS ARE NOT NECESSARILY CORRELATED WITH THEIR SIZES. LIFE SPAN MAY BE AS SHORT AS A FEW DAYS OR AS LONG AS A FEW THOUSAND YEARS.

  • 1

1) Reproduction

2) Smaller animals have more BMR, hence shorter life span but this can not be generalised for all animals as shown in the ncert examples

1) Ofcourse reproduction, through which a species gives birth to new one(s) of it's kind which in turn gives birth to another (or many) organisms of it's kind, hence sustaining it's species for many years.

2) It indicates that life span of organisms vary over a wide range.NOTE: Life span of organisms is independent of it's size.Hope found helpful.
