1. What subjects does Taplow want to opt for and why?

2. Why did Taplow consider classic leterature a muck?

3. How did Taplow write to express his liking for Mr. Crocker Harris?

1) Taplow wanted to pursue science because he found it more interesting than the classic literature he was studying.

2) Taplow considered classic literature to be muck because it seemed to him to be a profusion of Greek words strung together and fifty lines as punishment if he got any of them wrong. So he termed Aeschylus's play Agamemnon as muck but not because of its plot which he found rather good as a wife murders her husband. The play interests him but it is the method of teaching classic literature that he finds exasperating.

3) Taplow had a favourable opinion of Crocker-Harris even if he was a difficult taskmaster. He says that the man was not a sadist but he was quite frightening because he seemed so unemotional and dry. He preferred being hated than liked and what befuddled Taplow was that he didn't know any master who did not like being liked by his students. In spite of all that,Taplow liked Mr Crocker-Harris.
