Dear student,

1) According to the poet, it is useless to console the boy by saying that he can get another ball in place of the lost one. The boy had a long association with the ball. It was, thus, useless to give him such a suggestion because he wanted to get back the ball that he had lost
.
2) The boy loses his ball and gets upset. This was his first lesson in sensing first responsibility. He has the experience of losing something and learning how to cope up with the loss. He understands the nature of loss or what it means to lose something. He now will be more responsible and vigilant to avoid losing something in future.

3) “In the world of possessions” means that the world is full of materialistic things. People are driven by the urge to own or possess things and in such a world, losing something of value is inevitable. Losing the ball makes the boy realize the meaning of loss in this materialistic world
.
4) According to the poet the boy has to understand the nature of loss. He has to understand what it means to lose one's possession. Gain and loss are the two sides of the same coin. The poet expects that through this incident and it's sorrow the boy will learn how to move forward despite the losses he suffers.

Dear student,

1) The poet does not offer money to the boy to buy another ball because he knows that another ball is worthless. The boy has lost the ball that was very precious to him and no other ball can replace it. Therefore, he does not want to disappoint the little child by offering him money.

2) The boy loses his ball and gets upset. This was his first lesson in sensing first responsibility. He has the experience of losing something and learning how to cope up with the loss. He understands the nature of loss or what it means to lose something. He now becomes? more responsible and vigilant to avoid losing something in future.

3) Here, "in the world of possessions" means the world where everything and every action is made to possess something, whether it is the possession of land, property, money, or any other thing. The poet suggests that losing a ball, which is a very small thing, would make the boy understand what it is like to lose something that one possessed. This would make the boy realise that this is a world of possessions and where one can possess more things by buying them, one cannot buy what has been lost.
