She randomly selects 2 of the 10 boxes of shirts and checks every shirt in those two boxes. Explain the type of sampling done. Also state one merit and one demerit of the same. a) A school chooses three randomly selected athletes from each of its sports teams to participate in a survey about athletics at the school. Explain the type of sampling done. Also state one merit and one demerit of the same.

Dear student
a) cluster sampling:under this method, total population is divided into some recognisable sub division, known as clusters and then out if all the clusters , a given number of clusters are chosen at random and all the items covered by the selected clusters are included in the sample.
Merits:1)cut down on the cost of preparing a sampling frame
Demerits
1)sampling error is higher for a simple random sample of same size
B) stratified random sampling
in this method, the universe or the entire population is divided into a number of groups or ''strata' and then certain numbers of items are taken from each group at random
Merits:1) it ensures administrative convenience by dividing the population into certain homogeneous strata and sub strata
Demrits:
1) the strafied samples are likely to be more widely distributed geographically so,it may prove to be more expensive in the matter of collection.
