150 mL of a gas at NTP were taken to 20o C and 0.96 bar pressure. What is the change in volume of the gas?

Hi,

NTP is 20oC (293.15 K) and 1 atm

1atm=1.01325bar

Thus the temperature has remained constant during the transition

thus we can use the equation

P1V1=P2V2

150 ×1.01325= 0.96 × V2

V2=158.32mL

V1 = 150ml  V2 = ?

P1 = 1atm = 1.01 bar  P2 = 0.96bar

T1 = 273 K  T2 =273 +20 = 290K

now , by the ideal gas equ.

P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2

1.01 x 150 /273 = 0.96 x V2 /290

V2 = 167.63 ml.....
