Dear student,

Example 1 : Rishi is twice as old as Vani and their sum of their ages is 30.
This can be written as, x+2x = 30 where age of Vani is taken as x.
This is an example of linear equation in one variable , 3x = 30 or x = 10.

Example 2 : Two brothers bought together 10 books. One bought 4 books. How many did the other buy?
It can be written as x+4 = 10 where no.of books bought by other is taken as x
This is an example of linear equation in one variable, x = 10-4 or x = 6

Example 3 : Rashmi exchanged a Rs.1000 currency note to get several currency note of Rs.20 and Rs.10.
                    This can be written as 20x + 10y = 1000 where No.of note of Rs.20 is x and No.of notes of Rs.10 is y
This is an example of linear equation in two variables, 2x + y = 100

Example 4 : A rectangular soccer field had an area of 360 sq.m whose length is 20 m more than its width.
This can be written as l = 20 + w where the length is taken as l and the width is taken as w.
This is an example of linear equation in two variables, l*w = 360
