23) The most important function of plasma membrane is the transport of molecules across it Anisha is confused with the terms 'active transport' 'facilitated diffusion' osmosis passive transport etc. Help her in answering the following question.
(a) What is passive transport?
(b) What type of transport is facilitated diffusion?
(c) What is osmosis?
(d) What value do you learn from this?

A. Passive transport is that kind of transport which occurs without the consumption of energy as there is a concentration gradient of the substance which needs to be transported across a barrier, means the concentration of that substance is lower on the other side than the concentration on the side at which the substance is present. 2. Facilitated transport is that in which special proteins transport a kind of substance by making channels for it. E3. Osmosis is defined as the movent of a substance from a region of high concentration to low concentration, so basically it is also passive.
