3-19)What is geothermal energy? How can it be used commercially?List in tabular form 3 distinguishing features

between a thermal power plant and a geothernal power plant.

  1. Geothermal energy is the heat energy in the Earths interiors. The temperature at the centre of the Earth is about 6000C. In some areas, molten rock (magma) is found very close to the surface of the Earth. This hot rock meets underground water and heats it up. This produces steam. Such a place is known as a hot spot . Sometimes, this heated underground water finds an outlet through which it comes out on the surface of the Earth. Such outlets are known as hot springs .

    • geothermal comes from word geo matlab earth aur thermal matlab heat so total meaning of geothermal energy is heat energy from earth
    • geothermal power supplies less than 1% of the world 's energy.
    • it is a renewable energy source because the water is replenished by rainfall and the heat is continuously produced inside the earth
    • it is generated in the earth 's core, about 4,000 miles below the surface
    • geothermal energy is used 2 heat their homes and to produce electricity by digging deep wells and pumping the heated underground water or steam to the surface.
    • thats alll hope it helps

Heat from inside the earth heat up the water below the surface. This hot water can be usedunder favourable condition as a source of energy. This is called geothermal energy

The underground water comes in contact with 'hot spots' present in the earth's crust and steam is generated. This energy possessed by the hot water below the earth is called Geothermal energy.  It can be used to produce electricity.
Thermal Power Plant:

Uses coal as fuel.
Causes pollution.
The fuel used is very expensive.

Geothermal Power Plant:

Uses underground hot water.
Does not cause pollution.
The fuel is free of cost
