Answer to your questions is as follows :

a)
  1. The Amazon River basin has a low-water season, and a wet season during which the rivers flood adjacent low lying forests.
  2. The climate of the basin is generally hot and humid. In some areas, however, the winter months (June–September) can bring cold snaps, fueled by Antarctic winds travelling along the adjacent Andesmountain range.
  3. Such cold conditions can be devastating for some of the region's tropical plant and animal species.

b) The primary crops grown here by the people of the Amazon basin are Tapioca , Pineapple , sweet potato.
They also grow cash crops like coffee, maize and cocoa.
Cassava also known as Manioc which grows under the surface of potato is the staple food of the people residing in Amazon River Basin .
