3d series transition metals exhibit +2 as the most common oxidation state. Why?...plz ans soon

Dear Student, The lowest common oxidation state of 3d metals is +2 because in all the d-block elements the outermost orbital is s -orbital which has a maximum of 2e- s only thats is why it can loose both the electrons thus giving an oxidation state of +2. Regards!
