let x be the days for which he is absent
So he has to loose 200 x + 20 x 
First the wage and the next for penalty
Hence total loss = 220 x
If he could have gone all the days then he would get = 30 * 200 = 6000
By the problem 6000 - 220 x = 3800
OR 220 x = 6000 - 3800 = 2200
Therefore x = 10
So he was absent for 10 days

..., absent be                                         30-x days

200x-20(30-x)=3800
=>​200x+20x=3800+600
=>220x=4400
=>x=4400/220
=>x=20
... the employee remain absent=30-20=10 days.
