4 identical cells each of emf 8v and internal resistance 2.5 ohm are connected in series and charged by 100 v dc supply using 24 ohm resistor in series.

calculate: potential difference across the cells during recharging and the chemical energy stored in the cell in ten minutes

There are 4 identical cells with each having 8V.

Internal resistance = 2.5* 4 = 10 ohm since in series.

Charged by a 100 V DC supply with 24 ohms resistor in series.

By Kirchoff' loop law, -4* 8 - 10 * i - 24 * i + 100 = 0

So, I through the circuit = 2 A.
As, the cells are in parallel connection with each other.

100 - 24*2 = V2 - V1 = Potential difference
Energy stored in the cell = VIt
= 52*2*10/60
= 17.33 W
