 Ans 54:

a. Clothing is based on notions of beauty and cultures, and they changed with the course of history, as society evolved.
b. Changes came about due to changes in technology, due to the revolutions that marked dramatic changes in the concept of clothing. We may  give example of suffrage movement which campaigned for dress reforms and for more comfortable dressing for women
c. The nineteenth century  Clothes got simpler.The French revolution brought about changes as women began wearing clothes that were loose and comfortable.

d. , As suffrage movement developed, people began campaigning for dress reforms that pressed for comfortable dressing for women,. There was agitation against women’s clothes in Europe .
e. Doctors explained the ill effects of tight clothes which affected the spine and as also long flowing gowns which were unhygienic.
Traditional feminine clothes of women were considered to be  restrictive as it hampered body growth.The pain and torture that women had to face was accepted to be normal.
g.The radical dress society also came about in England in 1881.
f. Women  who  began to press for dress reforms,  were ridiculed by the conservative section of society, who did not approve of such reforms
g. Conservatives  regarded  women who gave up traditional way of dressing not looked feminine, graceful and beautiful.
h. Many women reformers because of such criticisms, found difficult to change and began to conform to traditional notions of clothing
i.It was the first world war that brought about radical changes. 

 j. The two world wars brought in trousers and blouses for women giving them greater freedom of movement. Skirts became shorter, frills disappeared. Women now went for short hair as it was convenient and easy to maintain.
k., Thus, it was technological changes,  introduction of new material  with industrial revolution and most importantly wars that changed the value system.
