9.The Ashokan pillars are written in _________ script.

Dear Student,

The Ashokan pillars are written in dhammlipi script.

Although according to a popular belief of both Indian as well as foreign historians, ‘Brahmi’ is believed to be scripted on Ashokan pillars and other places, being the oldest Indian script. Anirban Dash, a young assistant professor from Pune, claims that the script is actually very close to ‘prakrit,’ but is in fact ‘dhammlipi.’ Brahmi is considered to be attested from the reign of Ashoka and has been used for the imperial edicts. But, Ashoka himself gave a statement that ‘eyam dhamm lipi,’ which confirms it being dhammlipi, which was used earlier than Brahmi.
