2. Disease refers to any disorder of structure or structural function in an organism. Such disorders produce specific signs and symptoms. Diseases are basically characterized by disturbance in normal body functions. On the basis of time duration, diseases can be classified as acute disease and chronic disease.


Another way of classifying diseases:
a. Communicable diseases- Diseases which can be transmitted from one person to another. e.g. common cold, tuberculosis
b. Non-communicable diseases- Diseases which cannot be transmitted from one person to another. e.g. cancer

3. When a disease manifests itself in the body, it gets expressed by certain signs. The signs associated with a certain disease are termed as disease symptoms. For example, symptoms of jaundice are yellowish colour of skin, nails, high fever etc..
