# a body can have zero average velocity but not zero average speed . justify

Average velocity = Net displacement/time taken

Average speed = total distance/time taken

Net displacement can be zero but total distance can not be zero.

So, average velocity can be zero but average speed can not be zero.

A body can have zero average velocity but not  zero average speed because velocity is displacement / time and speed is distance / time. An object can have zero displacement but not zero distance . Therefore abody can have zero average velocity but not  zero average speed.

Hope this helps you.!!!

Cheers..!!! :)

THIS IS BECAUSE SPEED DEPENDS UPON DISTANCE AND VELOCITY ON DISPLACEMENT AND AN OBJECT CANT HAVE 0 DISTANCE WHEREAS IT CAN HAVE ZERO DISPLACEMENT

this is because speed depends upon distance

and velocity upon displacement .

we can have displacement 0 but distance can never be zero therefore average velocity can be zero but not average speed.
