A brick of length 50 cm and breadth 20 cm has a mass of 30 grams.
Calculate the pressure exerted when it is:
1) standing on ground
2) laying on ground

Dear Student As we know pressure = force / Area thus for first part when it's standing the area will be 20 x 20 = 400 cm^2 = 0.4m^2 And force = 30/1000 x g = 0.3 N ( taking g= 10m/s2 ) So the pressure for 1) is 0.3/ 0.4 = 0.75 Pa For second part area is 50 x 50 = 2500 cm^2 = 0.25 m^2 and force is same 0.3N thus for 2) pressure us 0.3/0.25 = 1.2 Pa Regards
