A car with a dead battery, is to be pushed for some time so as to start it why? What does this example signify?

It is pushed to get the engine running for which the battery is not required. In the car..self start is used for which the battery is used...when u push u are doing half the work of the battery....so the load decreases and the car starts easily...

It's called compression starting. This can only be done with a manual transmission car. This is because when the clutch is engaged there is a direct link from the tires to the engine, whereas in an automatic it is mainly about fluid pressures.

Your starter motor's essential function is to spin the engine allowing it to start. Each piston moves up and down creating the necessary compression to ignite whether the engine is running or not. What compression starting does is instead of the starter turning the engine over the person uses the momentum carried through the drivetrain to turn the engine over. As long as the ignition key is in the on position the car should start.

In other words, you push, pop the clutch and start your car that way. Helpful if either your starter is bad or you have a dead battery that cannot turn the starter motor.

I.C engines need an electric motor to start it. For cars with manual transmission, we need to select a middle gear, say 3 or 4th then we push the clutch completely. Then we have to wait for the car reaches a speed of 5-10km/h pushed by some persons. After reaching the speed we suddenly let the clutch go! And the engine starts.
Thank you for making me share my knowledge.

This process is called Compression starting. In this process, the car is pushed over some distance so that the car can generate electricity and re-charge its battery. When the tires of the car moves then electricity is generated and the battery is re-charged. This can only be done in manual cars and not in auto cars

If we want to start a car with a dead battery, then we have to push it along a straight, road to give it a certain minimum speed (of about 1 m/s) when one or two persons give it a sudden push, they are unable to give desired speed to the car & it does not start.
