a dancer in ice spins faster when she folds her arms. This is due to?

Because when she folds her arms, this increases the angular momentum and in result she is able to spin faster on ice. Hope this is helpful..!

When a dancer is spinning, she has a certain angular momentum. When the dancer folds her arms, the distance of all the points of her body decreases with respect to axis of rotation. Thus, in order to conserve angular momentum, the speed of rotation has to increase and hence the dancer spins faster.

When she folds her arms she is decreasing her radius that is mass distribution as well .. due to which moment of inertia decreases (mr^2) and omega (angular velocity) and rotational kinetic energy increases However angular momentum remains constant as the motion is because of internal energy
