A driver of a car travelling at 52km/h applied brakes and accelerates uniformly in opposite direction. The car stops in 5 seconds. Another driver going in 3km/h in another car applies brake in 10 seconds. On the same graph paper plot the speed verses time graph for the twp cars. Which car travelled farther after the brakes were applied?

for car A

here,

acceleration

a = (v-u)/t = (0-52)/5 = -10.4 m/s2

so, distance travelled

s = (v2 - u2 ) /2a = (0 - 522) / (2x-10.4)

thus,

sA = 130m

.........

and

for car B

here,

acceleration

a = (v-u)/t = (0-3)/10 = -0.3 m/s2

so, distance travelled

s = (v2 - u2 ) / 2a = (0 - 32) / (2x-0.3)

thus,

sA = 15m

so,

distance travelled by car A will be more than car B, after breaks are applied.
