A force of 15N acts for 5s on a body of mass 5kg which is initially at rest.Calculate:-

  1. Final velocity of the body
  2. The displacement of the body

The acceleration produced in body of mass 5 kg by force of 15 N is given as

acceleration (a) = Force (F)/mass (m)

= a = 15/5 = 3 m/s²

Now here initial velocity u = 0 m/s, a = 3 m/s², t = 5s , v = ?, s = ?

For first part using first equation of motion v = u + at

= v = 0 + 3x5 = v = 15m/s

For second part using second equation of motion s = ut + 1/2 at²

= s = 0t + (1/2) x 3 x (5)²

= s = (1/2) x 3 x 25

= s = 75/2

= s = 37.5 m
