a lift is designed to carry a load of 4000 kg through 10 floors of a building averaging 6 m per floor in 10 sec. calculate the power of the lift

Mass = 4000 kg
Weight (W) = 4000 * 10 = 40,000 N {Taking g = 10 m/s2}
No. of floors = 10
Height in each floor = 6 m
Height of all floors = 10 * 6 = 60 m
Time taken  = 10 sec.
Work done = mgh = Wh = 40000 * 60 = 2400000 J
Power = Work / Time = 2400000 / 10 = 240000 W = 2400 kW

If asked in horse power then it will be 320 hp
  • 2
Height => 10 * 6 => 60m
mass => 4000kg and let g = 10m/s^2
therefore , force => mg => 4000*10=> 400000N
so work done => force * displacement
=> 40000*60 => 2400000J
time taken => 10 sec
therefore power => 2400000/10 => 240000W
therefore horse power => 240000/746
=> 321.7 hp. Hopethis helps you
