Let the man starts from house H and moves north to A and then moves east to B
 Speed of man=3km/hr
Time taken to travel from H to A=2 hoursThus, distance between H and A=HA=32=6 kmTime taken to travel from A to B=2 hours 40 minutes=24060hours                                                          =223hours=83hoursThus, distance between A and B=AB=383=8 kmBy pythagoras theorem in △HAB,HB2=HA2+AB2⇒HB2=62+82⇒HB2=36+64=100⇒HB=10 kmThus time taken to travel from H to B=103hours=313hours                                                               =32060hours= 3 hours 20 minutesTime taken by man if he walks straight from home to point B=3hours 20 minutes
