A piece of chalk can be broken into small pieces by hammering, but it is not possible in case of a piece of iron. explain.

The particles of matter have force acting between them. This force keeps the particles together. The strength of this force of attraction is lesser in chalk, hence it could be easily broken into small pieces by hammering. But the strength of inter molecular force of attraction is very strong in iron therefore it is not possible to break them into small pieces by hammering.

because the force of attraction between particles of chalk is less than force of attraction between a piece of iron. so we can easily break chalk into pieces by hammering but not a piece of iron

The molecular forces in a metal are much stronger and hence they don't break easily.

  • 0

because the force between the chalf particles is less.and the force between the iron particles is more so the chalk will easily break into piecesby hammering but not the iron.

i hope u understood.

Because the property of ductility of a metal.

  • -8

it is not ductility its mellability

  • -13

in a piece of chalk particles are not closly packed and in iron it ia tightly packed that is why a pice of chalk can broken by hammering but not a piece of iron and force of attraction is also less and the force of attraction in iron is too much.
