a post dated cheque for 100 has been debited in the bank column of cash book but under no circumstances was it possible to present it ( as per od balance of cash book)

Hi Amit

The answer given by Cool Guy is correct!

Post dated cheques are the cheques that have been issued for some future date. These cheques carry a date yet to come and shall not be deposited in the bank for clearance until the date so specified arrives.

While preparing Cash Book this amount was debited, however, there is no effect in the pass book.
So, Balance as per Cash Book > Balance as per Pass Book
In order to make the balance of Cash Book equal to Pass Book, we will deduct the amount of post dated cheque (i.e. Rs 100) from the balance as per Cash Book.
