A primary root grows 5cm to 19m in a week. Calculate the growth rate and relative growth rate over the period.
Dear student
Please find your answer below to the asked query
Absolute growth rate
Lt = L0 + rt ... (i)
Please find your answer below to the asked query
Absolute growth rate
Lt = L0 + rt ... (i)
where Lt = length at time ‘t’ , L0 = length at time ‘zero’ , r = growth rate / elongation per unit time.
Here, Lt = 19 cm
L0 = 5 cm
t = 1 week
Putting these values in equation (i)
r = (Lt - Lo) /T
r = 14 cm per week
Relative growth rate =
Change in length / initial length or absolute growth rate / initial length
So 14/5 = 2.8 cm

So 14/5 = 2.8 cm
