A pupil decides to separate powdered calcium carbonate from powdered calcium chloride by shaking the mixture with water and filtering. Would this process succeed? Explain your answer.

CaCl2 and CaCO3 can be separated by using water. When we dissolve the mixture in water, CaCl2 becomes soluble while CaCO3 does not. CaCO3 can be obtained as undissolved solid by filtering the solution.  Heat the filtrate till dryness and get the solid CaCl2.
