a sample of gas undergoes expansion against a pressure off one atm.from a volume of 500ml to 906ml by absorbing 500J of heat.calculate the change in internal energy
Dear student,
According to first law of thermodynamics,
Change in internal energy = Heat flow into the system + Work done on the system
= 500 + Work done.
Work done = -PdV = -1 x 1.01325 x 105(906-500) x 10-6 = -41 J
Change in internal energy = 500-41 = 459J.
Hope it helps
