A series combination of two capacitors of value 0.1 & 1microF is connected with a source of voltage 500V.The potential difference in volts across the capacitor of value 0.1microF will be

equivalent capacitance = 1/11 microF
by using Q = CV
given : CEQUIVALENT = 1/11 microF   and voltage  = 500 V
Q =500/11 microA
so a total of this much charge will flow through the capacitors.
AGAIN, using Q=CV across capacitors :
500/11 = Vcapacitor / 10            {here, Vcapacitor = voltage across 0.1microF capacitor }
Vcapacitor = 5000/11 microV

As they are in series 1/C=1/0.1+1/1implies C = 1/11 now Q=CV Q= 1/11*500=500/11 now just divide Q/V1 i.e 500/11*1/0.1= 5000/11 =454.54
