A shadow needs an opaque object to obstruct the path of light, an opaque screen for the shadow to fall on and a source of light, but in some rare cases, When we travel in planes and helicopter we see shadow formed on a cloud that is a translucent screen. How is that happening without an opaque screen?

Dear Student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query:

First of all you clouds are not translucent, they are mainly opaque in nature. A very little light only can pass and come out of the other end of cloud, most of it is absorbed by it, hence there is no problem regarding formation of image of an airplane on clouds.
