Dear  sg1507176... ,

Shopkeeper got Gain on pen= 45 * 1 =45

Shopkeeper's lose = Rs. 5 = 500p

Profit + Loss = complet loss in selling of pencil = 45 + 5 = 50p

500/50 = 10

divide rs.5 and 40 paise ull get the answer

  • -1

let he sells x pencils.

Total loss(on pencils)= 40x paise

Total gain(on pens)= 100x45 = 4500 paise

net loss is given as Rs.5/- = 500 paise

40x - 4500 = 500

40x = 5000

x = 5000/40

x = 125 pencils
