a short paragraph on our country india

India is my country. I am a citizen of India. Our country is known by different ferent names such as Bharat, Hindustan and Hind. Ours is a very vast country and many people live in this country. In our country people belonging to various castes and creeds live together.

We have unity among ourselves. All the citizens have the right to speak and to study. Our national language is Hindi. There are other languages also, which are spoken in the country. They are Bengali, Malyalam, Tamil, Punjabi etc. Our national anthem is 'Jana Gana Mana." We have our own national flag. Hockey is our national game, peacock is the national bird and lion is our national animal.

In the north of our country there are Himalayas which protect us from winds and give rise to many rivers such as Ganga, Brahmaputra and Yamuna, etc. In the south, there are many seas and oceans.

Our country is an independent country, and it is the best example of unity in diversity. We are proud of it.

The spiritual history of our nation dates back several centuries during which the seers and our ancient forefathers who lived in the forests discovered spiritual truths which have been enshrined in our scriptures and epics.

In the history of no other nation we find the supreme wisdom and the distilled essence of the philosophical inquiries conducted by our forefathers ever intent on analyzing the mysteries of life.

If you go to the Burlap Planetarium at the Perkily Science Centre in Gundy, Chennai, a video shown on the screen explains that from an unimaginably powerful dot of light the universes formed in some seconds. The NASA TV programmed of the USA testifies to this wonderful fact. This is modern astronomy but this astronomical truth that the universes. Unnumbered, formed in a fraction of a second from a highly powerful glow was propounded by our ancient astronomers.

Dwelling on the political aspect of our country, we say it is a secular State. A secular state encourages the practice of all religions. It does not differentiate people of one religion from the people of another religion. It does social justice to the minority groups like the Buddhists, Janis, Muslims, and Christians etc. The Constitution of India assures certain basic rights to the people like the right for freedom of expression, the right to education, the right to practice one’s religion and so on. India is a multilingual, multi-cultural and multi-religious country. The system of castes in India is most deplorable. There are hundreds of castes. People of some castes are said to be superior in status to people of some other castes. A Brahmin is the highest in the hierarchy of the caste system. The Harriman belongs to the lowest caste. Besides the main four castes, viz., the Brahmin caste, the Kshatriya caste, the Vaidya caste and the Sutra caste there are umpteen divisions and sub-divisions in the caste system.

There are people belonging to the scheduled castes and the scheduled tribes. The tribal people live in remote mountains or dense forests. This complex caste system has divided India into many sections. In this confusing multiplicity of languages, cultures and castes we have to bring about unity. We have to see unity in diversity. This is the peculiar nature of India. No other country has so many castes, so many languages and so many cultures.

The urban people are advanced socially while the people in the rural side live unexposed to the advancing civilisation. Considering that a large section of Indians are socially and economically backward the Indian Government introduced the system of reservation for the backward and the most backward classes in the educational institutions and in the Government offices. This is social justice to the economically and socially backward people. There is a complaint that the educational merit and employability of some candidates belonging to the forward castes is not taken into consideration. But the reservation system for the backward students is only a step in the direction of doing social justice to all.

At one stage India was one large, undivided country. Later it was divided into several linguistic states according to the language spoken in a State. The States in India are: Karalla, Tamil Nadir, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Orison, Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Harahan, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim and Maharashtra. The linguistic States were formed for administrative convenience.

India is one of the largest democracies. After India attained political independence in August, 1947, it was declared as a Republic in 1950. India has made tremendous advance in many fields, especially in the fields of science and technology. India is a country which has developed atom bombs. It has made much progress in space research. It is fast developing country and like Japan and China it will soon achieve spectacular progress in all fields.

India is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west;[d] China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Burma and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history.[14] Four world religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism—originated here, whereas Judaism, Zoroastrianism, Christianity, and Islam arrived in the 1st millennium CE and also helped shape the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by and brought under the administration of the British East India Company from the early 18th century and administered directly by the United Kingdom from the mid-19th century, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence that was marked by non-violent resistance led by Mahatma Gandhi.

India, officiallyRepublic of India (Hindi Bharat), country in southern Asia, located on the subcontinent of India. It is bounded on the north by China, Nepal, and Bhutan; on the east by Bangladesh, Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), and the Bay of Bengal; on the south by the Palk Strait and the Gulf of Mannār (which separates it from Sri Lanka) and the Indian Ocean; and on the west by the Arabian Sea and Pakistan. India is divided into 28 states and 7 union territories (including the National Capital Territory of Delhi). New Delhi is the countrys capital.

Theworldsseventhlargest country in area, India occupies more than 3 million sq km (1 million sq mi), encompassing a varied landscape rich in natural resources. The Indian Peninsula forms a rough triangle framed on the north by the worlds highest mountains, the Himalayas, and on the east, south, and west by oceans. Its topography varies from the barren dunes of the Thar Desert to the dense tropical forests of rain-drenched Assam state. Much of India, however, consists of fertile river plains and high plateaus. Several major rivers, including the Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Indus, flow through India. Arising in the northern mountains and carrying rich alluvial soil to the plains below, these mighty rivers have supported agriculture-based civilizations for thousands of years.

Withmorethan1billion inhabitants, India ranks second only to China among the worlds most populous countries. Its people are culturally diverse, and religion plays an important role in the life of the country. About 81 percent of the people practice Hinduism, a religion that originated in India. Another 13 percent are Muslims, and millions of others are Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Jains. Eighteen major languages and more than 1,000 minor languages and dialects are spoken in India.
