A source of sound is placed at one end of an iron bar 2km long and two sounds are heard at the other end at an interval of 5.6 s. If the velocity of sound in air is 330m/s.

1. the time taken by sound to travel 2km in iron is

(A) 0.46s (B) 0.16 s

2. Velocity of sound in iron is

(A) 2348m/s (B)4348m/s

Given that

Speed of sound in air (Va) = 330 m/s

Speed of sound in iron Vi = ?

Distance L = 2 km = 2000 m

Let t1 = Time taken by sound in air

t2 = Time taken by sound in iron

Δt = t1t2 = 5.6 s

Now,

(1) t2 = t1 – Δt = 6.06 – 5.6 = 0.46 s

Correct option is (A).

(2)

Correct option is (B).
