A student put 100g of soil in a filter paper fitted on a funnel. He then clamped the funnel over a beaker. He then took 200 ml of water and added it to the funnel very slowly. He noticed after pouring 100ml of water that water started dripping out. He then poured rest of the water. It took

20 minutes for water to percolate and a total of 100 ml of water got collected in the beaker. a. What is the percentage of water absorbed?b. What is the rate of percolation of water?Need it fast

  1. About 200ml water was added from which only 100ml get collected in the beaker. The remaining 100ml of water has got absorbed by the soil in the funnel. This means soil has absorbed about half portion of water added. So, the percentage of water absorbed is 50%.
  2. The rate of percolation of water = amount of water percolated/ time taken = 100ml/20mins = 5ml/min.
