A study found that children with light-coloured eyes are likely to have parents with light-coloured eyes. On this basis, can we say anything about whether the light eye colour trait is dominant or recessive? Why or why not?

I know this is NCERT ques n its available on meritnation bt i dnt find full n gud ans der so pls help me out n ans of di ques plsss.............

No, since two copies of traits are inherited from parents, one from mother and the other from father. Unless we know the nature of these two variants of a trait we cannot tell which is dominant and which is recessive. Recessive traits appear when both the parents contribute recessive allele. From this statement we can only presume that both parents are contributing recessive allele.

we cannot say that the light eye color is dominant or recessive bcoz in cross we have nt seen the second pair of contrasting character!!!!!

umn..actually i am not getting this one can you please elaborate...?

hello garima !!! it is very simple....thet there is only one character i.e the light eye color...and in cross we have nt seen the second character ....so we cannot say...that the light eye clor is dominant or recessive....hope this helps u....

ok ! now i get this one...thank you :)

ANS: No,because the children with light coloured eyes had light coloured eye parent. We can conclude that parents are homozygous for light colour but we cannot say whether it is dominant or recessive traits.

parents are homozygous

hello saumya i  hope u didnot understand the concept when we creoss we get 50percentage in both trait ,and these trait acquires in our non reproductive part therefore we cannot it is dominant or recessive

Can we say that it is recessive? It can also be dominant......
  • -7
We can say that light eye color is dominant because only dominant traita are expressed in the first generation.

See I think answer should be recessive Let us suppose light colored eye be k and its contrasting gene as K Possible for parents: KK Kk kk Since statement signifies that if child has light colored eye parents will also have same usually Had k be dominant trait then it may get expressed even when one of parents does not contain its trait like we do in case of dominant trait in pea example. It is actually way of analyzing statement that may determine answer

Dominant eye colour : brown = BB Recessive eye colour : green , grey, blue = bb According to monohybrid inheritance, when light eye coloured father and light eye coloured mother have their child, then more probability is that light eye coloured child will be born.

Why is there no expert answer for this

No, since two copies of traits are inherited from parents, one from mother and the other from father. as per the findings of the study, children and parents both have light coloured eyes as a common trait thus we can say that light eye colour is dominant as only dominant traits are observed in f1 generation.

When all the children of light colour eyes have parent with light colour eyes the is indicate that light colour eye trade is controlled by a recessive gene example homozygus recessive parent with light colour I will only produce the light colour eyes children

Each point: 1.5 marks 1. Let us assume that the children with light colored eyes can either have LL, Ll or ll genotype. If the children have LL genotype than their parents will also be LL genotype LL×LL → LL 2. If the children with light colored eyes have ll genotype then their parents will also have ll genotype. ll×ll→ll Therefore, it cannot be concluded whether light eye colour is dominant or recessive!! Hope it helps!

the light coloured eye should be dominant because only dominant traits appear in the 1st generation
  • -4
Answer:- As per the findings of study, children and parents both have the light-coloured eyes as the common trait, we can say light eye colour trait is dominant because only dominant traits from parents are inherited by the children in the first generation

Iight coloured eyes are dominant as it is able to express itself in most the cases
