from where it breaks is 9m above the ground and its top touches the
ground at at a distance of 12m from it's foot,find out the total
height of the tree before it broke

In right Î”ABC, using Pythagoreas theorem, we get $A C^{2} = A B^{2} + B C^{2} \Rightarrow h^{2} = 12^{2} + 9^{2} \Rightarrow h^{2} = 225 ∴ h = 15 m$ Thus, total height of the tree before it broke = 9m + 15m = 24 m
