"About,about in reel and rout

The death fires danced at night;

The water like witch's oils,

burnt green ,and blue and white.

what is the meaning of these lines?

plzzz help me...

It seemed as if the sea around them was burning in death fires. The colour of the water seemed like that of a witch's oil as it seemed to be changing colours.  The poet is creating a supernatural environment through these lines. Soon follows the shipmates' belief that a spirit had been following them to create troubles for them.
These lines further seem to mirror the shipmates' state of mind. They have already put to display their superstition by at one time blaming the mariner, at another, appreciating him. Thus, this may also be seen as an extension of their supernatural belief.
Further, the fires, etc. seem suggestive of hell, bringing forth the idea of sin, a major theme of the poem.
