According to the first chapter give the character traits of Mr Otis

Dear Student,

Mr Otis was the American Minister who had bought the Canterville Chase. He was a man who was influenced by the industrial revolution that took place in Europe and so the existence of a ghost in the Canterville Chase was laughed away by him. When he encountered the ghost, instead of being frightened he offered the ghost the Tammany Rising Sun Lubricator for oiling the chains. Towards the end of the novel we see him to be a gentleman and honest man who refuses to accept the jewels gifted to Virginia by the ghost.
