To represent the products of decimal numbers such as 1. 0.7 multiplied by 0.3 2. 0.5 multiplied by 0.5 on a square sheet.
Learning objective:To understand the multiplication of decimal numbers.
Pre-requisits : Knowledge of fraction.
Materials Required:Sketch pens,square paper,pencil and a ruler.
Procedure:
Step1.Take a square sheet of paper.
Step2.Divide this square into 10 equal parts by drawing horizontallines.Each part represents 1/10 =0.1
Step3.Shade 7 parts out of 10 so as to represent 0.7.
Step4.Now draw,9 vertical lines on the same paper at equal distances such that each vertical part represents 1/10 or 0.1.
Step5.Shade 3 vertical parts so as to represent 0.3.
Step6.The double shaded portion represents the product 0.3 multiplied by 0.7.
Step7.Follow the above steps to represent the product 0.5 multiplied by 0.5.using another square sheet.
Observation:
1.The square sheet has been divided into how many equal parts.?
2.The number of equal parts in the double shaded portion how much?
3.The double shaded portion represents the product 0.3 multiplied by how much which is equal to how much?
4.The product 0.5 multiplied by0.5=?
