Amit has accidently spilled coconut oil in a bowl of water. Is it possible to separate them? Explain giving reasons.

Oil in water is immiscible i.e., they don't mix with each other and forms separate layer. They can be separated using separating funnel.
Pour the mixture of oil and water into a separating funnel. Allow it to stand for sometime, so that separate layer of oil and water are formed. From the stop cock of separating funnel at the bottom remove the water layer present at the bottom. Stop the stop cock as the oil reaches the tip. Oil will be left behind in the separating funnel and water is collected in the beaker kept below.
