An orange solid A on heating gives colourless gas B.the gas B is in dry condition is passed over heated Ca to give a solid C.the solid C further reacts with water to produce gas D which forms a blue coloured compund E on reaction with copper sulphate solution. identify A,B,C,D,and E.

  • The orange solid A is (NH4)2Cr2O7.

(NH4)2Cr2O7 on heating gives N2(gas)+ 4H2O(l)+ Cr2O3(solid).

  • Gas B is N2.

N2 reacts with 3Ca to give Ca3N2(calcium nitride).

·  Solid C is Ca3N2.

·  Gas D is ammonia(NH3).

Ca3N2 reacts with 6 molecules of water to give 2 molecules of ammonia and 3 molecules of calcium hydroxide.

·  E is a complex [Cu(NH3)4]2+.

Cu2+ ions present in CuSO4 solution reacts with 4 molecules of ammonia to give above complex.
