An ore on heating in the absence of air gives carbon dioxide.

(a) Which method will you use to convert the ore into oxide form? Explain.

(b) Which type of ores afre calcined? Give examples.

(c) What do you understand by the term roasting? Give examples

(a) Calcination - Heating the substance in the absence of oxygen , below its melting point . It is also called Thermal decomposition .It gives out Carbon Dioxide .

(b) Carbonates and Sulphide ores .

Eg:ZnCO3 , ZnS , Fe2O3 , etc.

(c) Roasting - For ZnS .It is heating in the presence of oxygen to give out SO2 .
