Dear Student,
The author notices that most of the young children engaged in rag picking are not wearing footwear. Some of them do not even have slippers. The authors disagree with the general interpretation that is offered as the tradition of barefoot walking in India. She feels it is only an excuse for lack of money, as they live in a perpetual state of poverty.
