a. Earlier women did not have access to education, today women are enlightened, educated, professionals and are at par with men.
b. Women were subjected to social evils like child marriage, female infanticide, sati; today women are more aware and have raised their voice against such practices which are considered destructive to progress.
c. Women in the earlier times had no political rights and were discriminated, in the present century women have equal set of political and legal rights and constitutional gurantee to equality.
d. Women did not have right to inherit property, however today women are given equal right to property with that of men.
e. Widow remarriage was not allowed in the society earlier, today women have have changed their perception about themselves and have exercised liberty to remarry and carve a new life for themselves.
Women of today have emerged as active agents of change for society.
2. a. Raja Ram Mohan Roy was rightly regarded as the first great leader of modern India who sought to reform the country of its degenerative practices.
b. He was pained by corrupt and stagnant practices of caste system, superstitions and wanted people of the country to develop scientific temper and approach.
c. He sought to reform Hindu religion by condemning caste rigidities, idol worship and other rituals.
d.In 1828, he founded Barhmo Samaj for the purpose of developing modern outlook in the people, to purify Hinduism and to preach belief in one god.
e. He was a strong champion of women's rights, he stood for equality and led a struggle against Sati. He got a law passed banning sati.
f. Raja Ram Mohan Roy aimed at spreading modern education as it promoted modern ideas and thinking which he strongly believed would reform the Indian socuety.He founded the famous Hindu college, vedanta college to encourage scientific, thinking among the people .
