Through these lines we get to see how Anne did not like dwell upon her illness because had been a dreadful experience in the annex. Anne had been suffering from a bad case of the flu which had prevented her from writing in her diary until that day. Being sick in the annex was was dreadful because every cough she had to duck under the blanket and refrain from coughing as much as possible. She had been subjected to a number of remedies just to cure that cough because it could be heard by others if they did not take proper precautions. On top of that Mr Dussel decided to play doctor and laid his head on her chest which was embarrassing for her even though he was a doctor. This was because it was too intimate a gesture by a man she did not like at all. The whole episode was a distasteful experience for her so she did not want to think about once she was well again.

This diary entry was probably made sometime before Christmas and Hanukkah because Anne talks about getting extra cooking oil that had been made permissible for the holiday season. Also,in the very next entry,the date is December 24, 1943 so the former entry must have been made in the same week.
