Answer in about 150 words:
Comment on the ending of the story 'The Enemy'.

The ending of the story was peaceful yet full of apprehensions. Dr. Sadao risked his life and helped a dying man escape, who was an enemy. Also, the General was more concerned about his health than getting an enemy arrested. Thus, there were loopholes at the end of both parties, which resulted in a peaceful end, otherwise the story may have ended on a violent note.

DEAR KIRAN,
The ending of the story is highly artistic. The old general recovering from the operation promises that Dr Sadao will be rewarded as a good man.Dr Sadao has his award when he  finds that his prisoner has gone safely from the island. He now recalls all the other white faces he has come across. The professor, at whose house he met Hana, a dull man and his wife had been a silly ,talkative woman , in spite of her wish to be kind. His old teacher of anatomy had been insistent on 'mercy with knife'. He remembered the face of his fat and slatternly whom he had despised of being ignorant and dirty. He remembered the amount of difficulties he had faced to find a place to live in America becoz he was a japanese. The Americans were full of prejudice and it had been extremely bitter to live in America. He found the white ppl repulsive. It was a relief to be openly at war with them. Then he remembered the youthful , haggard face of the prisoner. It was also white and repulsive. He thought it very strange that he spared the enemy. he is left wondering why he couldnt kill the white prisoner...'HIS ENEMY'
HOPE IT HELPS! ^^
