Answer question 11 fastttt

Dear Student,

Given,
mass if bullet m= 50 g = 0.05 Kg
velocity of bullet v1 = 35 m/s
mass if rifle m2 = x Kg
velocity of recoil v2 = 350 cm/s = 3.5 m/s
before firing, both gun and rifle are at rest so,
total momentum before firing = 0
Acc to the conservation of momentum
Total momentum before firing = Total momentum after firing
Total momentum after firing = 0
m1v1 + m2v2 = 0
0.05 × 35 + x × (-3.5) = 0   (as recoil is in opposite direction -ve sign is taken)
1.75 - 3.5x = 0
x = -1.75/-3.5
x = 0.5 Kg

Therefore, the mass of the rifle is 0.5 Kg.
